Introducing a new publication from the great image+sound blog Letter to Jane.
Portland based photographer Timothy Paul Moore has been very busy the past few months putting together his first issue of Letter to Jane magazine. The magazine is packed with photography and artist interviews including Yoko Ono, Peter Bjorn and John, No Age, Passion Pit, Hedi Slimane, Au Revoir Simone and many more. At 180 pages it will take you some time to browse through the publication but for free you can’t beat the clean design and obvious passion behind this project. Best of luck to you Tim on this new venture! Check out Letter to Jane magazine.
Discovered while working on my new tumblr blog are the propaganda and cartoon influenced wood cuts of Roman Klonek. This is fantastic work coming out of Düsseldorf, Germany.Do you use tumblr? Leave a comment linking to your tumblr page or of any good ones worth checking out.

Little Paper Planes is a wonderful little art shop full of lovely prints, zines, books and other handmade arts and crafts. The growing community of artists on the site are producing beautiful work and I always find a new favorite. Founder of the shop Kelly Lynn Jones took a moment away from her busy thesis work to answer a few questions and share some favorite pieces currently on the site. LPP also have been sending out a special newsletter highlighting some holiday treasures and check out their gift guide here. How would you describe Little Paper Planes to someone who is unfamiliar with it?Little Paper Planes is a store comprised of a variety of artists specializing mainly in artist prints and art zines though also T-shirts, jewelry and little handmade items. I look at it as a community of artists, not just a store and am really interested in each artist as an individual; who they are and what drives them to make the work. In addition, the store has created this platform for emerging artists to sell pieces they are making in multiples to help support them while pursuing their art careers/ endeavors. On the opposite end, it gives art lovers/buyers a place to support art with a limited budget since most of the artwork are at affordable prices.I have seen the site grow after following it for a few years now. How many artists are now a part of the family and how do you go about adding new artists?I actually don’t know the exact number but it is well over 90 artists at this point. Originally when I first started the store in 2004, it was just my friends and friends of friends. Though as the store grew, I have contacted artists I feel make a nice fit or from submissions who also make sense for the store. Cortney is in charge of submissions now and we still choose work we think compliment the rest of the work on the site. We would like to think of it as curating, since we think about each artist individually and how their work has a dialogue with the other work on the site. We also choose a featured artist of the month where we interview them as well as produce a print of their work. This print is exclusive to Little Paper Planes. What do you have in store for 2010? Any art shows or events planned? We are working on our first art book of an artist. It should be released early 2010. It will be the first book in our newest endeavor, publishing! I am super excited about making books. When we have everything ready I will tell you all the details!! We also will be doing many more exclusive prints and zines, a drawing party up here in the Bay area early Spring, another book project with an outside publisher, a newly designed blog with way more content including many interviews and features, an ongoing T-shirt line at Urban Outfitters, and lastly I am starting to think of another curated show. I want 2010 to be the year LPP goes beyond the virtual world and into real life, where we do more collaborations and events. Community among creative people is the most important aspect to me which is the main reason I started the store way back in 2004. On a personal side note, I will be graduating from the California College of the Arts in SF with my MFA. So right now I am working on my thesis and beginning to think about the work I will be making for my show in May!Thanks so much Kelly and best of luck on your upcoming work!
